Yes, thanks so much.

...you must have been one heck of a teacher!

Well, I had a wonderful teaching career. I (and my students) won a multitude of awards. In my 30 years in the science classroom, I started teaching science to middle schoolers, effervescent young adolescents 12 to 14 years old.

Then, for my final 16 years in the classroom I taught honors and advanced placement biology, to high schoolers. I was fortunate to teach in a high school where both parents and administration promoted and supported strong, effective instruction in the sciences. I ran a student science research project, where my more talented (and motivated) students conducted research in the labs and facilities of local industries and other research-supporting institutions. A good number of college scholarships and science careers resulted.

In summers, however, I conducted my own research. I am an expert on birds of prey, a raptor biologist. I've studied wild raptors across the continent, from Alaska to Maine, particularly in the West. Until recently, I was a licensed state and federal master falconer (hence, "falconer"). I've conducted raptor breeding projects, rehabilitation projects, banding projects, and population studies.

I am also a prairie biologist. Currently, I am professionally engaged by a federal agency in the restoration of up to 3000 acres of native tallgrass prairie in my state. Most importantly, my research team at a nearby university just gained a federal grant that will support a research project I devised, where prairie vegetation will be planted to intercept and capture algal nutrients, keeping them out of Lake Erie, thereby preventing harmful algal blooms.

Through all of this, I've learned how to effectively (and interestingly) present important but difficult science information to general audiences. I've done a lot of technical writing for both professional and general audiences --- a skill not always so well developed in scientists. In summary, I'm delighted to be able to use my skills and experiences to usefully layout Anavex science to the good minds here. Quite a story that's unfolding. It's an honor to be able to tell it. My thanks to both interested readers, and to IHub, which allows the interchange of cogent ideas and information.
