Got it, this seems to be HUGE confirmation that Anavex is on the right track.

Thanks for this post ref: "Diet, Shaping Our Microbiome - and Diseases"

But it reminds me of something I'm not quite understanding. Anavex presents the idea of a group of 2-73 trial participants that have a higher ratio of "better" bacteria in their gut and that those people have a more therapeutic response to the drug.

"Results revealed that patients treated with ANAVEX®2-73 had high levels of two gut microbiota families, Ruminococcaceae and Porphyromonadaceae, which were associated with improved activities of daily living (ADCS-ADL) at week 148 (p<0.01 and p<0.04, respectively)."

Is Anavex saying that those participants already had that better ratio of bacteria or that 2-73 caused the ratio to improve?

"Numerous pre-clinical studies demonstrate beneficial effects of SIGMAR1 (S1R) agonists on neuroinflammation, including with ANAVEX®2-73[5]. The effect might potentially be reversal of the microbiota imbalances and might have a homeostatic effect on the brain-gut-microbiota axis."

How could 2-73 and the sigma-1 deliver a higher ratio of the better bacteria? By somehow providing more of some nutrient that encourages the beneficial microbiota?

"There are hundreds of different types of gut bacteria. Each type of bacteria specializes in metabolizing a different type of nutrient, which produces metabolites. Metabolites are altered broken down nutrients based on the enzymatic abilities of the bacteria. These metabolites are typically in a more bioactive form, which may be more easily absorbed and utilized in the body. If you consume a nutrient utilized by a type of bacteria, ipso facto, you will have more of that bacteria's type of metabolite. Additionally, that bacteria's population will grow when given more of its needed nutrient. Furthermore, one bacterium's metabolite can be another bacterium's nutrient. Feeding different bacteria changes the balance of microbes in your intestines. These bacteria compete against each other for residence and resources along the digestive tract."

fascinating eight minutes. Having had CRC, I am well aware of the benefits a healthy diet has on the body. Though the verdict is still out on the benefits of a plant-based diet, a few years ago a study was presented at ASCO showing that Stage III patients who consume nuts, along with increased physical activity, have a significantly lower chance of cancer recurrence.

Thank you for the gut biom clip Investor, very informative. Makes me feel even more guilty of my animal and ale based diet.
