It would ruin a trial for people to know that a clinical halt was imposed because of a concern for the safety of the placebo patients, especially a trial as delicate as this one. But their concern is not the trials viability, but the ethical treatment of all the patients. They can’t let anyone know though, either. I once had a video of a Mayo Clinic doctor describing that dynamic in the context of encouraging patients to do clinical trials. Unfortunately, the video was taken down.
It’s blind, also, but the relevant institutional observers would know the deal.
