My record for the most male goldfinches at one time at my feeder is 13. What a colorful spectacle! I fill all my feeders with sunflower chips. No mess and everyone but catbirds and orioles like it. I go through a jar of grape jelly every two weeks.

No goldfinch around here, though evidently they're abundant a few states south. But the little drab one could easily be mistaken for a sparrow.

Oh yes, and we have mourning doves. They're pretty. One once flew into my apartment, but fortunately figured out how to get out quickly.
