Right, small water changes. Backwashing the filters does not mean that the entire tank of water is changed. And of course you discard the backwashed water. Everything that SHMP has written indicates that the tank's water is not changed during the shrimp's time in the tank.

Actually, they never said they backwash the filters at SHMP ... Please stop making things up.
