dougSF30, yes it is in Intel's interest if HP didn't use AMD chips. HPQ is a larger company than Intel, and Intel needs HPQ as much as HPQ needs Intel. So they have to respect each other's interests, and one of HP's interests is to prevent from becoming dangerously overdependent on Intel. That is a reality for Intel in their dealings with HPQ - the latter isn't about to sell their future for a bowl of porridge right now, and they don't have to.

Which means that HPQ will tell Intel to take a hike if they suggest they shouldn't be using AMD.

Why November rather than now? Many reasons, but ultimately it comes down to no need to introduce the computer now without a proper OS, and AMD may not be ramped enough until then. November they can catch the holiday season. It is sufficient for Tuesday that HPQ makes their intentions official.

And per your own earlier post, it would be in Intel's interest to convince HP not to use ANY AMD products.

The question is only about the means, and to what lengths they go in attempting to wield their considerable influence.

No doubt Intel secret agent men [TM] are deployed in force
in order to obtain compromising photos of Fiorina. :-O

Just curious... do you ever get a shock through your aluminum
foil hat when you lean too close to your monitor? Or do you
simply explain it as isolated instances of excessive field
strength when the unmarked white Intel thought control vans
drive too close to your house?

I dont think AMD is ready for HPQ K8-Volume right now. In November, they will have something for them (maybe 1 Athlon-64 for 10 Bartons?), but still not enough for a regular product line. Next year AMD will be able to deliver volumes for a regular Athlon-64-line. Maybe a good chance to take away some corporate-accounts from DELL. K.
