I agree, beneficial bacteria coexist with us throughout the body and on the skin as I understand it--infants pick up many of them on their travel through their mothers' birth canal. The bacteria my weight loss startup are addressing live in the intestine where, I would guess, the vast bulk of the microbiome lives.

but as someone who is working right now on the "microbiome organ" I don't have a problem at all with them calling it that. In many ways it has all of the functionality of an organ, and in fact it is sometimes referred to in the literature as an organ.

A collection of microorganisms is not an organ.

A company that fills its PRs with scientifically inaccurate creations does not inspire me. Rather, it offends me. If they're that sloppy, I'll place my money elsewhere. Specifically they need to understand the difference between a collection of microorganisms and organs.

They may turn out to be a miraculous investment, but one that I'll definitely miss.
