#22791 RE: Surwin #22787

Last I knew, no one speculates on history. Most speculate on what they believe the future will hold. I'm still hanging in there on Gorgal as I continue to believe that he did not do that testing just for the sake of doing some testing. He did it for a reason, maybe one of his clients, and I believe that one of these days VLDI will actually be put to use in a commercial environment.

As for the length of time between Nov 2017 and now, these things do take a very long period of time to negotiate especially when it comes to something as radically different as VP. And if Gorgal tested for 9 months, any entity considering VP is also going to spend a bunch of time testing.

If you are the chief security officer the "not invented here" syndrome (I've been in IT for 30+ years, I've seen it a lot) is huge considering it might mean your cushy 6 figure salary. You are certainly not going to advocate for VP but will go to the board for a request for funds to solve the problem in house. This could go on for quite some time or until the board is tired of continuously funding a security operation while being dragged into court on various lawsuits due to data loss or simply suffering losses due to bad PR. I suspect most businesses do not come out publicly to indicate a hack until they are forced to do so.

I've mentioned on this board in the past regarding the fact that however they do it, VLDI does manage to continuously come up with the funds necessary to stay in business. For how much longer is anyone's guess but as stated, I'm still waiting.
