All good thoughts. But we disagree on Alderson's role and authority while he was the gm. I firmly believe he was constrained by Jeff's purse strings. There is no way you will ever convince me that it was Alderson's decision to pick up Gonzalez or Bautista.
You'd have to agree that Hosmer would have been a decent pickup. A durable rbi producer. But that would have taken a multi year contract. The reason we ended up with Gonzalez, who was supposed to tutor Smith, was so that Smith would be the first baseman for years. So instead of paying Hosmer we use Smith on the cheap. It's all about cheap and that's on Jeff not Sandy
