#188625 RE: SSKILLZ1 #188624

Nothing happened, no penny was spent without Jeff Wilpon's approval. It was Jeff who loved Callaway or he wouldn't be here. It was Callaway who pushed for Vargas and Swarzak because he knew them so well from the AL.

"After Alderson’s departure, the Mets have been run by assistant general manager John Ricco, and special assistants J.P. Riccardi and Omar Minaya. We also can’t forget about Jeff Wilpon, who has been labeled as the “real general manager” by many, including MLB Network’s Peter Gammons."

"Alderson said the quality that he valued the most in Callaway was his "commitment to collaboration," which did little to dispel the notion that Alderson and COO Jeff Wilpon pull a lot of the strings while leaving their manager to implement their plans and sometimes pick up the pieces."

Do you think not going after Moustakas was Alderson's decision or Jeff's? Do you think signing Frazier instead for two years was Alderson's decision or Jeff's? Do you think it was Alderson's decision or Jeff's to sign Adrian Gonzalez instead of pursuing Hosmer? Alderson too smart of a baseball man to sign Bautista, Gonzalez and resign Reyes. Money rules here. Jeff has the purse.
