Organizations develop a culture which is usually propagated from the top, but not always. Whoever in BIIB executive management released the PR knew it was a lie. We might think that technical/science based organizations are populated with people who are fundamentally honest-truthful characters. In fact most engineers/chemists/biologists/scientists value the truth and can be counted on to always be truthful, even when it is not what others want to hear. Anyone who has been in any technical field for a while will tell you that personal integrity is by far the most important attribute required in such a company and culture. I can say from experience that this belief is a fantasy, do not assume that every company gets this.
