I have ceased prescribing vascepa except for patients with trigs >500 as per FDA recommendations . I recently did write and rx for that indication - oop cost was $400 ... patient asked to have med changed to generic lovaza ....... Of my old rx's I would say about 25% have insurance coverage - those that dont usually transition themselves to a DS in relatively short time .....

shar...

You are correct that big plans like "Silver Scripts" have raised the tiers recently...For reasons that make no sense, but are probably coming from their know nothing clinical advisers...They also claim Lovaza is a valid substitute for Vascepa..

Hopefully that will change in three or four months when these clinicians get educated...

PS...I checked this out today after reading your post..

Vast majority of posters here and on StockTwits who take Vascepa pay way under $100 (most probably $9) and no one has TG > 500.

I assume you're losing insurance coverage when your husband retires and you don't qualify for Medicare yet? Because of my friends who were forced to get ACA plans, they're nothing but catastrophic coverage - cost $500-$600/mo for premiums with $6k-$7k deductibles - not sure about drug coverage, but if you can't afford to pay full boat for a doctor appt. how are you going to get a scrip for a drug?

Never heard of T6 - but if you're already paying $233/mo for V, can't be much more expensive than that, as it's almost full retail cost. I believe when I checked Medicare Part D plans late last year Express Scrips plans showed zero coverage for V in my state, i.e. didn't even show on any tier.
