That is NOT correct! TD Ameritrade does allow purchase of GERS, just not online, at this time. I suspect this is due to how thin the stock is and the huge BID/ASK spread. They want to make sure that you understand the risks.
Copied below are three of many responses I have had with them on this issue. So you can buy as many as shares as you can afford.
There is so much misinformation brought to this board.
(1) Opening transactions for this security are currently barred from being placed online. You can still buy or sell over the phone with a broker, at the online commission rate by calling 1-800-669-3900.
To protect client interests, TD Ameritrade has systems and processes to monitor trading patterns and identify suspicious trading activity. Some securities are more vulnerable to manipulation than others. By requiring opening trades to be placed by a broker, we are able to more accurately verify client identity and instructions. In this way, we can protect client assets and help ensure the integrity of the marketplace. NOTE: This is not a reflection of the Company itself, this is simply regarding trading activity that has been reported.
(2) In response to your request regarding the ability to add to your position in Greenshift Corporation, (GERS), I encourage you to go to the website and place your trades. The security is trading at the current time as an OTC stock and is available for purchase into your account. It is not necessary to confirm this on the DTCC website, but you are welcome to search that website yourself for additional information.
(3) Thank you for allowing me to assist you today. I have checked with our trade desk and they have confirmed that the DTC chill was lifted late on Monday, March 12. With the chill being lifted you are now able to buy and sell shares of GERS online.
