I think it may be unfortunate that Ferris does not have an experienced associate who does not have a conflict of interest. I have seen it all before, and the "conflict " always costs the company/shareholders. In all matters outside of managements expertise, they need to seek out a second opinion from a disinterested expert. Anytime a consultant is brought in for advise, three things need to be established up front. The fee, the deliverables, and how "conflicts" are going to be handled. Once a consultant understands that you are not a "country bumpkin" they shape up fast. If this is not established at the outset, they will manage you to your detriment.
