But what is going to make the CableClix 'app' stand out? Anybody can write an app and if there is money to be made you can bet that someone with a lot deeper pockets than what CableClix has will be doing it. CableClix will need to offer something that the other apps don't offer. That's what they have been offering via the set-top box concept in conjunction with the know-how that Mark brought to the table. Now, it's all very unclear what the advantage is going to be. Anyone can come up with the idea of 'personalized content'. Who would be better equipped for that than someone like Amazon or Google?
Even OTTV - who has an app - is using set top boxes. The quality is better and it works on all those TVs that aren't 'smart'.
Very interested to see what the company has to say about things this next week. I hope they will answer the questions re set top boxes, and local content.
I have thought that Cauri and team were taking over the programming of the set top boxes and just making it all better, while still incorporating local content. I still hope that is the case. There is so much money to be made in local advertising, and saved by utilizing ISP for marketing, that it still seems like a better business model for a small company (with the know-how) to me, for where the industry is currently at.
