Ted. What is a set top box? It's two things. An operating system and application logic or an app which is... the application logic. If TV makers are pushing TV's now with the operating system already built in pretty soon everyone will have a TV with an operating system built in.

How was the original plan, with set top boxes, supposed to allow you to watch it on your tablet and smartphone? You would need to download an app to your Android or Apple phone or tablet yes? So. I would have to assume the set top box would be running the Android operating system as well with the app already installed unless CableClix designed a new operating system. If they did then they would still need to create an app that could be downloaded to an Android or Apple operating system.

What is the purpose of both? I'm just not seeing it.

This is something else you're not thinking of and no one else is:

First the company has to buy the set top boxes. Then the company has to ship the set top box to a customer. What happens when the set top box stops functioning? The company has to pay the shipping from the customer back to the company and pay shipping to send them another set top box and the customer is without service while they wait.

You need a place to store set top boxes. You need techs to repair set top boxes. You need customer service reps to handle the calls that come in when the set top box stops working, to send out shipping labels and handle returns and shipments. Sounds like an awful lot of infrastructure and cost when all you need to do is separate the application logic or app from the operating system, set top box, and make it available on operating systems already available on TV's, tablets and phones.

So how is the app on the set top box any different then just the app itself. It's still the same application logic and they still function the same and provide you with the same service only they are removing the set top box aspect and costs associated with it.
