It's said they got here from live tanks in Asian markets, so apparently someone decided it would be cheaper to release some to breed than import them?

I don't even wanna know why the beetles are here, but have you considered doubling your garden's output by sauteing some up in lemon herb & garlic?

If your weather has been like ours you've likely got some good jungle for gardens going this year.
