I think it needs to be understood that insomnia is a symptom of many CNS & what is classified as "mental illness" such as depression. These mental illnesses may have physiological causes.

Think of what happens with a skin rash or a bug bite, if you scratch it it becomes worse and may even become infected which can cause an even more serious condition.

We know the brain reorganizes and heals during sleep. Insomnia, night after night is like scratching the itch, it just keeps getting worse.

A healthy sleep cycle including adequate REM could be the key to restoring brain health in many CNS and mental health conditions.

Insomnia relief MIGHT be the base of Iceberg.
It would seem there are things Anavex knows and is not speaking of.
How else would one explain Dr. Missling statements on more than one occasion: "What you are seeing is just the tip of the Iceberg."
Seems rather cryptic coming from a man seemingly not prone to hyperbole.

I'm in full agreement with this board that there can't be much of a placebo effect in AZ trial participants due to the symptoms of the disease itself. But in regard to the 7 or 8 people who reported insomnia relief, might there not be be a placebo effect due to real or perceived alleviation of their Az symptoms?

I know when I'm at or near a resolution of a problem I sleep great, and in hindsight, I could have predicted that I would.
