The average bear market lately is over one year. 2000 to 2002 the NASDAQ lost 66% of it's value in 30 months. 2007-2009, 16 months. 1987 was like one week, but the NAS finished up for the full year of 1987. My speculative side says a quickie big drop, have not had one since 1987. That said, watch stocks have a great first half of 2017 :-)

I checked mid sized and large food related stocks on my own in the March 2000 to October 2002 bear market and as a group they we up a couple percentage points plus dividends, much better that the NASDAQ's -66% drop.
