Yes. And? Are you suggesting that FAA is gonna automatically give green light to this product?... Which of course it isn't yet and will take many years to even come close to.
Anyone can do a one-off sanctioned flight over a pre-approved area.
What anyone won't be able do is jump on an air scooter in their backyard and go Jetsoning around the neighborhood. FAA rules limits drones to 55 lbs, so these manned transports would never be approved. Besides, they're LOUD. No one wants a 200+ lb. object including a human crashing through their roof.
Hell, even dudes cruising on balloon-powered lawn chairs need FAA approval.
FACT, the FAA knows about Zapata since it was reported to them that this attempt at a demonstration took place WITHOUT the required approvals. Fox 4 News in Florida reported this quote from the FAA spokesperson:
"The FAA is aware of the operation and is looking into it. The device/operator did not have an FAA-issued experimental aircraft certificate, which is required for an experimental aircraft"
Yet another pink sheet so called "fact" debunked!
A couple of people here have written the FAA, asking for sactions/fines to be issued to the company if this happens again.
Let's see them get a valid permit. Unlike the pink sheet world, the FAA will want more than edited videos as proof that this is more than hype!
