well I see it as a balancing act there will be TONS leaving for the states with the free stuff and ACLU and powder prisons and on and on and there will be LOTS of people such as US wanting to come IN
so there would have to be some type of approval process aka visa or short term stay for those wishing to visit or come take a look
other countries have them, nothing new here
The one very hard part early on is the banking system and the state would have to have a way to back whatever currency they use or create to allow for instant access to your money. That is the chaotic part that will happen quickly and will take some cast iron guts to stand up and say, you lost this or that and have to find a way to get the banking system online quickly..
Yes, for those that have prepared by owning real estate, purchasing precious metals, diamonds, art whatever your fancy they will have tangible assets to begin their new journey with less of a headache but the way I see it, those that chose NOT to secure themselves in ways that would protect their wealth PAY FOR THEIR CHOICES.
Its the same now right? Some choose to spend spend spend and borrow and over buy and bet the come on future earnings and when this or that happens economically, or whatever they suffer

Texas has a very vibrant economy, access to ports and shipping, industries that manufacturer goods and services, they have areas that can produce food year round, they have medical facilities that are world class and also LOTS of open space to be developed
into viable and productive space....
we also have our problems and new ones will arise. State defense will be a big issue at first but luckily we have states that are in union that border us on all sides but 1 so really I dont think an invasion from the bad guys are coming from Oklahoma, Louisiana, or New Mexico so we would only have 1 side, the southern part of the state to concentrate on at first.
Lots of pluses and lots of minuses
