Miss Australia, I had replied to a previous post of yours a couple of weeks ago and due to the time difference and volume of posts on this board, you probably did not see it. I am a retired MD here in the states and have worked with Alzheimer's patients and have also been touched personally by the condition. I want to affirm to you that I greatly appreciate your comments here and thank-you for the time you take to do so. If you don't mind I would like to ask a fairly specific question, and that is, do you have a sense that your family member is developing more ability to remember RECENT events, or, to learn NEW things and remember those?? I appreciate any input you might be able to give on this.

How do you know that your family members are receiving Anavex compounds? Did you ask before the trial?

Remembering your birthdate is significant IMO - it means that all memories aren't irretrievably lost, some may just sort of misplaced in the confusion of an altered cognitive state.
