To much emphasis on pitchers in the twilight of their career and the failure to develop/acquire younger pitching talent (e.g. White Sox, Tigers and Twins) is what could keep the Yankees out of the playoffs.

FA, Also I said if Ortiz/Thome win the MVP. I mean could you name one other guy deserving at this point. I mean the odds of me being wrong is so small with both being DH's, as I predict they will probably finish 1-2 right now, however all I'm saying is one of those two DH's will win the MVP. People are hating the DH, and I don't like the DH either, as I'm a fan of NL baseball rules, but If you use it, then there is always a chance that if someone puts up superior offensive # to everyone around him, that they will win the MVP, and Since by a country mile Thome and Ortiz have put up better # then everyone else in the AL. The DH will Reign as the AL MVP in 2006 in my opinion.

Edgar Martinez was a great offensive player, Problem was it is hard to Justify him as an MVP, when he Had guys Like Ken Griffey in his prime, and A-rod Coming into his own on his team. I Mean these guys play SS and CF which are defensive positions, if Edgar Martinez was on another team, and put up the same # he probably would have won an MVP in his career in my opinion. But this guy might have played with two of the best position players of all time in my opinion when it is all said and done.

FinancialAdvisor, Thats entirly false. Why try to make something up other than what is being said. Many" and I mean many" times it has been said if he was to play the field then it wouild be different. I have no problem with a deserving red sox player or player from any other team that deserves being a MVP.I have said also I like Ortiz, I don't think despite his numbers a .278 batter should be a MVP. Maybe team MVP but not league MVP. Thome has very compairable numbers and also has a better batting average and I don't see you nominating him. Is that because he is not a Red Sox player? He is also a D.H. I don't even understand the big dispute in the 1st half of the season. Ortiz could become injured or Thome can. There are guys that are putting up great numbers and are batting .320-.340. No, they don't have as many RBI's as Ortiz has or home runs but he doesn't have the batting average they have and their gloves are fantastic. There are more things to look at than just RBI's and HR's when deciding on a season MVP. There is hitting for average, OBP, Fielding. Giambi has 27 HR's and 72 RBI's which are not real far away from Ortiz, Should his name be in the mix for MVP? Of course not, he's batting .260..lol
