"Both have taken advantage of this freedom from legal oversight to lure investors and government grants by making some very "forward looking statements" without needing to characterize them as such in a disclaimer."

Well, that certainly has some overtones of dubiousness....you must have some inside knowledge of the terms from the grants and these company's investors.

Please look VERY CAREFULLY at your source for that bit of news.

I have found multiple sources. Here is one from the Japanese National Research and Development Institute of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization dated November 28th, 2013 showing a picture of the new factory and giving details: http://www.nedo.go.jp/news/press/AA5_100237.html

The properties of the fiber was not really released publicly by Spiber, but they did give a presentation to ImPACT early this year and the presentation itself was stored online by them. It took a lot of digging to find it, but here is the .pdf that mentions those properties that I cited: http://www8.cao.go.jp/cstp/sentan/kakushintekikenkyu/7kai/purezen4.pdf

I had a discussion with TRUTH about Bolt Threads a few months ago (Post 95950) on what their properties were and what they had. With his guidence, I was able to find the source I cited which was the VC company that provided financing to them, not the other way around. You can read about that here: https://foundationcapital.com/blog/2015/06/bolt-threads-makes-the-big-time

I have looked into them quite a bit and feel that they are both legitimate companies on the verge of commercialization within the next couple years.
