vic: I don't think we'll see a rule change anytime soon. IMO, the current population of players wouldn't vote for a change at a Union meeting, and MLB can't do anything like that without Union approval.

The reason I say that is this: 1) AL players that wouldn't have a job without the DH would vote against it, 2) NL players that make their living pinch hitting would vote against it because their salaries would go down drastically if the DH was used in both leagues, and 3) Every-day position players and pitchers, who wouldn't be affected much either way, would be pressured by their lower-paid teammates to vote against it to preserve their jobs &/or salary levels.

However, in the unlikely event that it does come up for a vote sometime in the next century, I'd predict that the DH would be done away with. Mainly because there are two more NL teams than AL teams, thereby giving the non-DH players more votes.

Aren't unions a wonderful thing?
