#93818 RE: Eskaminagaga #93817

With the exception of the cytotoxin issues, I read Randy lazily or lightly. For now I am dismissing our silkworms as having medical possibilities. I don't know if there is a possibility for mulberry fed silkworms...to not produce cytotoxins. Not good for humans. Maybe they can do something with the DNA, but I seriously doubt it. Diet has much if not everything to do with it. Spiders eat protein, so that is probably why their silk is compatible with humans. Just my thinking.

I don't know how it would be possible either, but Randy Lewis seems to be having an issue with it, so I am worried about it happening here as well. Hopefully, it is only an issue with using the CRISPR/CAS9 system.

This was an issue with some earlier (pre PiggyBAC) viral transposons that left behind mutagens that caused subsequent random genetic degradation.

That problem was solved by PiggyBAC, but PiggyBac still had issues related to false targeting.

ZFN CompoZr has neither of these problems.
It acts only once and leaves nothing behind.
Also, because it uses multiple amino acid pair triples for targeting it is extremely precise!

I am not sure about the CRISPR/CAS9 system.
It is very new and therefore any problems may yet to be discovered.
