I think the phenomenon you observe finds root in the fact that beans are more of a trailing indicator. Speculators want something of a leading indicator and think they can build one by "mastering the technology." As long as they admit that they're speculating -- or even gambling -- and refrain from pitching it as "investing," it's their money.
