Sorry trade this is a serious misconception many have about holding certs.
IF I held ALL mine in cert form I can place a sell on my computer and a box pops up that say your are attempting to sell an stock you do not OWN ,then it asks how do I intend to support such a sale and I check the box that says I WILL DELIVER THE CERTS WITHIN THREE TRADE DAYS ya know T+3.
I've done it several times

And if your broker doesn't allow such over their trading platform ,just take the cert to them and say SELL em
