While your "A little story." had a happy ending,
would anyone on this board like to make that into
a Chapter 1 and continue with an investigation of
a search & discovery into modems ?

It would be real nice if eventually some of us learn
how to do identify the make & model of which modem
is inside our pc, and what initialization strings are set
as defaults and if these equal manufacture's recommended,
plus where to look to see if there are any changes or updates
announced after the modem was manufactured.

Hopefully once we all can learn the simplest initial settings
that will always allow the modem to run and function o.k.
that we can then know how to reset back to this state
while making changes that might fix problems or simply
increase speeds or reliabity.

I'll start with my guessing, as follows.

For the string AT+MS=V34

The AT might be a flag to identify to what is accepting input
that the next sequence of characters are a command string.

The MS letters might mean Modem Speed
where the = character attached to these two letters
signals that the next characters represent a speed type,
where here its the V34.

Unlike 1+1=2, or algebra X+Y=Z
this command string
AT+MS=V34
might not fit that mold type equation structure,
but more of a
AT[tention please]+[thank you, let begin]MS=V34
where now the MS=V34 is like an assignmint statemint
like
ModemSpeed is determined using Version 3.4
or in everyday talk
the name of my dog is Matt
or, dog=Matt
where dog is a certain type of life form
and we give it a name that means something special to us,
here the dog is male and chases all the female dogs,
just like that big guy we knew in highschool :o)
so,
AT+MS=V34
is like
ATTENTION+DOGNAME=Matt+DOGSIZE=6'2"+DOGIQ=189
ok,
and the V34 might mean use modem speed of 33,600 bps
MS=V34
Modem Speed will be set to standard V34 [33,600 bps]
