A little story.I have a P3 Win98 puter on a dialup connection.A couple of weeks ago I began to suffer slower speeds and increasing disconnects.Trying alternative phone numbers made no difference. Finally I got online live chat with an earthlink tech. They had an Indian name and for all I know they may have been in India.Their best idea was to do some "programming" to the modem. They had me go to modem properties, and then advanced connection settings. In the empty extra settings space they had me put the line AT+MS=V34.And that was it.Reboot.No further instructions. So I restarted and the puter wouldnt dialup at all.The connection was instantly rejected. So,back I went to the modem and took out the "programming".After another restart, guess what?Problem fixed! No disconnects and puter surfing faster than ever.I have no idea if this is what the tech intended or how it works or what happened.I can guess that the modem got "reset".
