I doubt the oil/gas boom in the US will last anywhere near as long as anyone thinks. And there are other reasons that it won't, too. Megatons to Megawatts is finished. The Russians won't be supplying anything more for US nukes. Reactors need uranium, and uranium makes nukes. Eventually, the US will take more interest in nuclear energy...as if we weren't already dependent on it.
Thorium is many decades away...and no nuclear byproduct. So why would the US bother?
