As for ASPs, they did not give exact figures, but still mentioned that they are striving for the $100 threshold. This continues to amaze me, since almost everything on their price list is well *in excess* of $100. I think AMD continues to seriously discount some parts. It sounds like they have discounted Opteron this quarter to gain additional market share. It's a good thing that they did gain more market share, but I wonder at their current ASPs how low they are actually offering these parts....

It's not so amazing considering the lowest 4 out of 6 Sempron models are under $100. Their asp used to be $60-70 in the K7 days.

They actually made a very good story about inventories. They said they loved being lean, and that they are trying to see how lean they can get.

What you say is true, when applied to units. Inventories are a difficult datapoint to use to prognosticate. There are a number of issues and special cases, as you mentioned, like EOL and ramping up of products. Suffice it to say, given the tone of the CC, the issue is not clear to me, though it could be a non-event.

I'll have to agree with that statement. Either the OEMs are getting one heck of a sweet deal or they're making one heck of alot of Semprons. At the risk of sounding like Ediot, enthusiasts and DYIers are the ones getting screwed here. For example, Athlon 64 X2 3800+ are going for $300 retail. You can buy an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ system with 1GB PC3200, 250GB drive, DVD burner and Windows for under $700. Gateway's got to be paying under 1/2 the retail price to offer system via Best Buy at that price.
