be careful...there's a real dichotomy at work in the American work place at present. On one end of the spectrum we have mgmt compensated 400x their associates and shareholders are led to believe that these golden, overblown compensation pakages are the legitimate cost of doing business. On the other end, American labor is being forced to a lower wage and standard of living to compete with cheap foreign labor. Why aren't globalization pressures felt on both ends of the American pay scale? Or do we just continue to inflate the already grotesque 400:1 ratio?

I'm still in the process of digesting all the GTE info we've been given (and catching up on board) so this is not a direct comment re: Co (yet) but it drives me a little nuts when SH don't think they should even QUESTION mgmt compensation......

Fraid I have to take issue on the question of Corporate Officers remuneration.

There are 12 Corporate Officers who cost 12 million.(and how many shares ?)
Why not in these development stages reward with shares and bonuses for real acheivment related to PROFIT.
What a novel idea.

There are 52 others running the company cost = 3 million.

The problem with awarding mutually voted handsome remunerations and bonuses without profitabliltiy can be seen in all the bankrupt or nigh bankrupt corporations at the moment.
Bankrupt airline staff take wage cuts and loose pensions whilst the executive vote themselves bigger salaries.
The stupidity goes to the absurdity off Golden Parachutes
For one thing officers become divorced from their staff and the companies objectives and profitability.

IF they had forgone the 12 mill then we wouldn't have had such a bad 10K and would actually have broken even.
It would have done a lot for shareholder and staff confidence too.

Hey just think buy that 'apartment' ? in Naples and the offices in Florida and take the rent with some of that 12 mill ......

37,000 shareholders invest in this company.
Maybe the officers should invest something too !

Gary17368...I would prefer that the executives of the company be compensated by achieving goals not by just handing themselves a raise. In my opinion theres a good chance GTE is going to have to increase the amount of shares in the future. Shareholders want results not dilution.

Did you ever stop to think that there are more people in the company now than a year ago? More executives from the divisions they acquired in 2005? They doubled their product and service pipelines and need the experts on board. I guess we'll have to wait until the proxy to see just whose salary doubled, but I think it will be more about the additions they made to the staff rather than everyone giving themselves a nice big raise. By the way, a neighbor of mine (some of the year)is named Randy Dumas and I wonder if this is him. Maybe I should drop in and borrow a cup of sugar.
