And I might add (repeating myself some) there is such a thing as product launch, where product has been built to be scalable ie. it works across all (or the greater majority of) customer environments at the time of launch. In Wave's case, the job of the CTO with as much help as he/she can get from within the company. OK to draw on outside including customer sources during beta, but at launch have it done.

they've created a simpler, more evolutionary, useful, single-step type of product rather than trying to sell something that took eons to integrate and therefore wasn't saleable EXCEPT on a haphazard basis.
