Sentiment, not at my home computer where I prolly have some good definitions stored but in general when referring to an open trial, you are referring to on ‘open label’ trial where the doctor and patient know what drug/placebo they are giving or getting. Never heard of a closed trial (unless the trial is closed to new patients i.e. “Ongoing, not recruiting” as they say in clinical trials speak), I believe you are referring to a ‘Blinded’ trial where the doc/patient doesn’t know if they are getting drug or placebo. I might have some clinical trials ‘101’ files or links to share at home but I won’t get back till tues or Wed. if still interested.

So for the Direct trial which is open label, NWBO, as they have been reporting, knows that what is happening to the patient is most likely the result of Direct. For the DCVax-L P3 trial which is blinded to whether the patient is getting drug or placebo, NWBO doesn't know if what is happening is the result of L or a 'Placebo Effect' until the trial is unblinded.
