Dude, if the standard is close to free, Wave's price continues to decline.

dude_danny, your post on standardization rings an alarm bell. There may not be enough support to keep up with the demand for enterprize trials (evaluations) of TPM security.
For example: there are 158,000 (google number) companies with more than 1000 employees.
Most of those 158,000 have at least one IT manager. Some have several IT managers.
At a minimum let's say there are only 79,000 (1/2).
Some will know about TC. Some will not.
Let's assume 1/3 are interested in TC.
and assume 1/3 of those are motivated to do something.
and assume 1/3 of those are motivated to run an evaluation.
That is 79,000/27 = 2925 will place an order for new PCs and the server software.

What revenue does that bring to Wave?
2925 x $35,000 = $102,375,000.00
LOOKS GREAT, RIGHT!

Whoops, maybe there is a problem.
We have two thousand nine hundred twenty five IT managers who are clamoring for support service on their Trusted Computing Trial. Can Dell, Gateway, and EDS Intergrators handle the situation? Probably not! What can they handle? I sure do not know. Probably a few hundred!

YES, We do have a big problem.
Maybe the hardware-nope, 2925 x 500 PCs = 1,462,500, that ok.
Maybe the software -nope 2925 copies, that's ok.
Support: backordered-2500 or so pissed off IT Managers. Their orders are placed on hold. We don't get paid.

Now we have a dilemma!
-the TC Standard is established.
-most all Computing Departments now say they are ready to deploy.

What happens?
1. the tsunami is upon us! Dell and Gateway convert their entire enterprize pc lines to TMP capable. Intel converts all their chipsets to TPM capable. WAVE is overrun with 50 cent pieces. The 12 million dollars Wave needs to breakeven for 2006 is assured by this and by the 200 or so evaluations that get crammed in yet this year. We wavoids are estatic.
2. Who can handle the Trusted Computing deployment problem? Now is that a better problem than we have had before? I think so. Hooray for EDS and NTT Data. Let them sweat for a couple of years.

Anyway, this might be one senario that fits. Also, this might be why SKS only put in 2%---because he knew it would be difficult to evaluate and deploy upgrades faster than that.
