He always had the support of a large corporation in his career, i.e. Carnival, and could just "push through" maintenance and dry-dock schedule co-ordination. Call the accounting department to make any required payments.
He never had the experience of running a company, making a payroll, international high finance, treasury functions, financial reporting, personnel management, crew management, hotel operations, marketing and sales. His prior business experience was running a small maritime equipment re-seller.
He than responded with smoke and mirrors, dishonesty, grandiose ideas, moving targets to cover his inadequacies.
It is sad, but it is the truth.
He should has taken the upfront approach and dealt with the problems head-on.
