Delivering a highly automated and secure approach to deploy OPAL Self Encrypting Drives (SEDs), using Wave EMBASSY Security Centre to manage the drive, EMBASSY Connector (for configuration management) and EMBASSY Protector (port control and removable media software encryption). The aim is to retrospectively deploy to 18,000 recently updated PCs and then a further 60,000 by Business as Usual (BAU) PC hardware refresh.

The solution includes software on clients to automate:

(i) drive initialisation;
(ii) assigning the recovery/management account to the disk;
(iii) provisioining of users to the SEDs;
(iv) capture of user password for Windows Single Sign-On;
(v) Locking of the disk.

There is a server-side service written to remove the need for a large administration team, handling requests promptly and accurately. Communications between the new client and server components are fully encrypted and further secured by some checks/protocols.

Provisioning times have been reduced from at best hours to 15 minutes or less through this automation. All known issues have been carefully considered and concerns used to make engineering changes to address these within the automation. Recovery is simply to re-run the installation, simplifying training and adoption.

The IP for the solution and maintenance is being transitioned to Wave Systems Corp. Full functional and technical design documentation has been produced to support the handover.
