LOL my phone is already better in virtually every way than your classic Intel Atom netbook... Screens are screens, drives are drives, but does Intel want to price their chips down where ARM will be?

And do you know how expensive a standard Android smartphone is, when it hasn't been subsidized heavily by the phone carriers? Just looking at Verizon's website, I get the following for full retail price (without 2 year contract renewal discount):

- Samsung Droid Charge: $569.99
- Motorola Droid Bionic: $589.99
- LG Revolution: $559.99

Get the idea? That's how much it will cost to have an ARM based device with the same functionality as a phone, when you don't get a subsidized package with $100+ monthly service.

I think we'll find out, won't we? I suspect people are more attached to their "legacy" apps than you portray.
