We tried to stay as American as we could (I know...) so we looked at Dell, HP and Toshiba (because Japan can use all the help they can get and they were so impressive during their crisis).

Ended up getting a middle of the road HP that was on sale at Staples last week. So far Mom is happy with it... but not especially happy about learning win 7, office 2010, and a new video capture program she had to buy...
