It's a totally different situation than with Rambus. Rambus was accused of participating in the standards setting body (JEDEC in this case) and getting their IP adopted into the standard without telling anyone they intended to pursue payment (at rates the members did not consider reasonable and non discriminatory). The exact opposite of that situation occurred with IDCC, where they voluntarily and openly participated in the standards setting process and was not trying to price gouge on royalty rates. The EU has no case against IDCC...all IDCC wants is a fair rate, and ultimately, Nokia will have to pay a fair rate and full back royalties. If the EU Commission tries to do something questionable toward IDCC, I think Nokia's goose is really cooked.
