for the US it looks like the number you cited is high by almost 10x

In that breakdown, the hydrocarbon business is spread over several items—have you added them all together? For instance, there are entries for “Oil and gas extraction”, “Nondurable goods/Petroleum and coal products”, and “Pipeline transportation”, among others.

you specified hydrocarbons, if you're including coal in that mix, then the job gets tougher.

I'm trying to ascertain the number attributable to hydrocarbons used for energy; hence, I would ideally want to include thermal coal, exclude met coal, and exclude petrochemicals used in plastics and lubricants. Regards, Dew
