New Zealand
14. NZ summarized their proposed participation in TW08, included at Enclosure 6. these include the DNOC at JISA South, Porirua, a TACNOC at Devonport Naval Base, Auckland, a MOC at HQ JFNZ, Trentham, with HMNZS Te Kaha at sea in the Hauraki Gulf and a virtual ship at the Whangaparaoa Peninsula.
15. The proposed NZ initiatives include:
a. CMFP Core services;
b. AIS2Gold;
c. Virtual Servers;
d. Black Routing with QoS over MIPN using Wi-Fi and/or Cellular network and/or C-band Satellite;
e. Expanded MOC footprint; and
f. UHF SNR. NZ will not be conducting a ‘NZ only’ SNR trial however will consider a trial if AU is interested in participating .
16. NZ closed their brief by providing an overview of the NZ Scientific community involvement and outlining some of the challenges being faced at present, including funding, personnel and accreditation issues.
United States
17. The US provided a technical update brief (Enclosure 7). The brief summarized the participating ships, including:
a. USS BON HOMME RICHARD,
b. USS NEW ORLEANS,
c. USS MILIUS,
d. USS CHUNG-HOON,
e. USS CROMMELIN,
f. USS LAKE ERIE,
g. USS PAUL HAMILTON,
h. USS PORT ROYAL,
i. USS REUBEN JAMES,
j. USS RODNEY M DAVIS.
18. In addition, an LPD or LSD will participate but platforms are not yet identified. The vessels tentatively identified are USS RUSHMORE or USS GERMANTOWN. USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) will also be available for limited test of applications, but no major network initiatives.
19. The accreditation issues were summarized and the US TW08 installation milestones outlined. In closing, the US overviewed the FIRE website requirements for TW08.
United Kingdom
20. The UK presented national update (Enclosure x) which outline the UK level of participation, which is likely to include a virtual ship, HMS Dauntless. There is currently a slight potential for HMS CHATHAM to participate from its Far East Deployment. The UK focus mainly on the coalition initiatives, including Efficient XML, VMWARE, SNR/MTNC2 interop, and CND. The UK indicated there is a particular interest in:
a. HADR: Systematic Software Beacon;
b. Telesto: White shipping fusion software;
c. MHQ w/MOC: Observation or use only existing networks;
d. Coalition FIRES
21. The UK level of National involvement was outlined and the challenges currently being faced where presented, including manning Engineering Support issues (limited SME availability and funding.
A-Z Initiatives
22. The A-Z Technical lead summarized each of the proposed AZ technologies for TW08 (Enclosure 9), including:
a. Bearers
(1) Wideband SNR,
(2) Multiple Ad Hoc Subnet CONOPS,
(3) Spatially Aware Networks (SPAWN).
b. Routing
(1) Policy-Based Traffic Management (AMBTN spiral),
(2) IA/CND for LOS/ELOS,
(3) WAN Optimization.
c. Applications & Services
(1) EMIO Data Reduction via iORA, JPIP, NxPLite,
(2) Directory Services Integration (Global Address List).
23. The initiatives to be tested in the Laboratory only were presented:
a. Wideband SNR,
b. WAN Optimization,
c. Pchat lab testing over SNR and HFIP,
d. JPIP Client lab testing over SNR and HFIP,
e. iORA testing over HFIP - unable to do so in TW07, and
f. XMPP / SAMETIME Gateway - laboratory testing of IM interoperability capability.
