The question why WXP was selected is an interesting one. There seems to be no involvement of TC in this contract. So that's out.
The ability to insert ads is not unique to WXP. It's commonplace, in fact. It may be that WXP has some client-sensitive capabilities associated with their ad serving which makes them unique, however. Not sure.
Maybe it's simply that WXP specialises in a caching service, and NBC was looking for a "Go" solution during the Olympics. Everything else is just extra.
Or maybe it is because the price was right. Insufficient information to work with.
