Bluzboy, Alea......if I may step in here re: NAND Flash
While I agree that NAND Flash will replace HDDs in an (for me) unknown timeframe, it wouldn´t change anything about the usage of trusted devices and Waves role in this picture. It´s not about the storage technique it´s about HOW is the device connected (fix for boot or USB) and WHAT is it for (bootable device or data device).
The preboot functionality can also be used with NAND Flash devices IF they have a build in controller chip, so nothing would have changed.
The issue is about external, via USB or Firewire attached devices. These devices have to be authenticated while the OS is running, so you have no chance to unlock the drive in the preboot environment. Thats the same with external FDE.2 HDDs connencted via USB.
SKS spoke at Cebit about USB devices and that they are working on this issue.
It doesn´t matter WHAT device, it only matters HOW (pre or within the OS) it will be authenticated.
