Last week, the West Virginia House overwhelmingly passed Bill 4653, which would “remove bona fide schools, public libraries, and museums from the list of exemptions from criminal liability relating to distribution and display to a minor of obscene material.” In essence, any teacher, librarian, or museum curator is now potentially on the hook for $25,000 and up to five years in jail if convicted.

FFS. Are we back to the days of people getting the vapors when exposed to images of bare nekkid ladies at the local museum? Or even a not-local museum?

In fairness, though, I doubt there're many museums in West Virginia. Not the fine arts kind, at least. Since I'm an art historian, I'd probably know if there were.

The good thing about all this is that I'm sure a great many kids will search out whatever the idiotic legislators are trying to ban
