The continued no-dose efficacy factor.

In the new journal article, the authors made this statement:

Following 7 months of drug treatment, and after a 1-month washout period, rats were tested in a battery of behavioral tests. The open field test showed no differences in locomotor activity between any of the groups...

That’s another very significant finding in the study, validating Anavex 3-71's ability to permanently or chronically (long-term) fix the pathologies that cause behavioral problems related to Alzheimer’s; here, in the “1-month washout period.”

This means that the transgenic rats about to experience the onset of Alzheimer’s symptoms were prophylactically treated with Anavex 3-71 for a full seven months. Of course, lab rat life spans are much shorter than human’s. One source says, “The lifespan of laboratory rats has been reported to be 2.5-3.5 years (average 3 years; compared to 80 years in humans)...”
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8564917/

So, let’s use those data. Let’s presume lab rats live typically to the age of three; humans to the age of 80. A 3-year old rat has lived 36 months. An 80-year old human has lived 960 months. In the study the rats were studied for 8 months, 7 while taking Anavex 3-71, and a final month with no drug. How many human-years might that final no-drug rat month be equivalent to?

A rat’s month is 2.78% of its entire life span. So, 2.78% of a human’s 80-year lifespan would be 2.224 years. Consequently, the rat’s final no-dosing month was equivalent to 2.224 years in an elderly human’s life. For the rats, in that final month, equivalent to 2.224 human years, no Alzheimer’s symptoms appeared. After dosing stopped, Anavex 3-71 continued to work, keeping the drug-free rats symptom-free for the equivalent of at least 2.224 human years.

What can this mean? Simply, the Anavex drug morphologically or physiologically fixed things permanently, chronically, for a significant duration after the drug was stopped. Can you see the significance of this? How many other drugs for geriatric diseases or conditions are able to yield positive on-going therapeutic outcomes after they are no longer administered? Simply, phenomenal — but real.

A number of us who post on this message board have the biological competence to comprehend and understand, at least to some degree, the unique mechanisms of action (MOAs) of the Anavex drugs. Each new announcement of Anavex drug research produces results that we expect and understand — as did this one. Similar minds at a multitude of research institutions and inside major pharmaceutic companies are not oblivious to the emerging Anavex science. They, too, recognize the significance of Anavex science, and how it will eventually transform CNS disease therapeutics.
