If the family is adding that much salt to their food, it's probably for one of two reasons.
Lack of seasoning while cooking, or a habit formed over time.
You use far less salt while cooking than you do will if you're adding at the table.
Properly seasoned food isn't salt flavored unless you go overboard on the salt.
The only time I have a salt shaker on the dining table is if I'm serving fries.
