Randy Lewis has worked on modifying silkworms to produce spider silk. I think he could scrape up a fiber.

I'm not sure if some of them are deliberately trying to be dense, but the obvious answer to the question is that none of the companies in the past could create a fiber with the properties of dragline spider silk. Not even any of the fermentation companies. Not Lewis, not Spiber, not Bolt Threads, not Amsilk, not Enteric(?)(I don't know who that is but maybe some tmeant Entogenetics?)

Kraig Labs is the only company who could make a fiber equal to, and better than, the strongest dragline spider silk.

They don't claim "similar to spider silk" because that notion is meaningless. Especially because some species of spiders can make silks that are very weak.
