Outside of KC what team has won a world series in the last 20 years that doesn't have a decent payroll. Payroll matter if ownership isn't committed to winning, guess what your not gonna win, all the scouting in the world isn't gonna help you. If your a pirates fans Bryan Reyonolds develops, your allready look to trade him when he gets to the Arb year. It is absurd. When do you ever compete that way.

How about the brewers, the last couple of years they could of went and got the bat they needed, but they didn't do it. Wasted the year where they had excellent pitching under control. And then they trade hader for pennies on the $ when they are in first. And the team fell apart after that. These small market teams are just absurd. Yes Tampa for what ever reason seems to have perfected the strategy of being competitive without spending money, but that is the exception, not the rule.

I get your love affair of watching young guys with guys like Hicks and Donaldosn for example. Because I always felt the yankees gm was always overrated. He makes a ton of mistakes. And to be fair I rather see one of the young guys in LF than hicks if I was you too. But it s important to note, most of these young guys don't develop in fact they often are not very good and I'm being nice. So before we get too crazy here with youth movements, remember they often fail alot more than they succeed that is why they are called prospects in my opinion.

---All above is just my humble opinion.
And I could always be wrong.
And as always do your own DD.---
